Capturing Memories with Carla Searcy

What can I say? This post is really about celebrating Carla Searcy, my photographer, and the beautiful moments she has captured for my family. I first met Carla about five or six years ago at a client event. She was a friend of theirs and, at the time, was working as a new photographer. I remember being amazed at the quality and emotion in her work, especially the way she could capture people of color beautifully, whether at night or during the day. Her talent and passion were clear, and I knew I had to work with her.

Our first meeting was a coffee date at Caribou, and we spent hours talking. It means so much to me to work with people who are deeply passionate about their craft, and Carla is exactly that. She understands my vision for each session, always asking how I want the photos to look and, most importantly, how I want them to feel. Carla’s work has become an essential part of my family’s story, with her photos capturing the essence of who we are.

Each year, we aim to do family photo sessions in spring/summer and again in the fall or for the holidays, alternating as the years go by. The photos I’m including here are from a special shoot on top of a mountain, taken to match the Boho Blue Christmas decor in our home a couple of years ago. The setting was breathtaking and a little daunting to reach, but the results were worth it – Carla’s photos captured us at our best, and they fill our home with warmth and joy every time we look at them.

I love that Carla’s photos don’t just capture images; they capture energy, emotion, and connection. Each room in our home feels more vibrant with her work displayed on the walls. When I decorate, I intentionally choose outfits and settings for our family photos to complement the decor, and Carla understands this vision perfectly. Her eye for color, location, and lighting brings everything together seamlessly.

Carla also works with me on professional projects. She takes all of our company’s branding photos, including individual headshots for each team member and group pictures. Her ability to make everyone feel at ease and bring out their unique personalities is a gift. Whether it’s a family portrait, a branding session, or even a client’s wedding, I know that Carla will deliver photographs that feel personal, genuine, and full of life.

Watching Carla grow as a photographer has been amazing. She’s now shooting almost daily, pursuing her passion with dedication, and it inspires me as I work towards my own dreams. So, thank you, Carla, for everything. Your work fills our home with love and beauty, and I can’t wait for our next session.
